Not Everyone Must Be Your Friend, But Not Everyone Should Be Your Enemy

It is true that not everyone in your life must become your friend. Differences in values, purpose, and seasons naturally shape our relationships. However, it is equally important to understand that not everyone should become your enemy either. The absence of friendship does not automatically require hostility. The Bible teaches us to “live at peace with all men” (Romans 12:18). This instruction comes with wisdom—“if it is possible, as much as depends on you.” In other words, while everyone may not choose to be at peace with you, your responsibility is to maintain a peaceful heart and attitude toward others. Sadly, in today’s world, people are often quick to cut others off at the slightest offense—misunderstandings, unspoken expectations, or minor mistakes. While boundaries are important, constantly disconnecting from people over small issues often reveals deeper struggles such as unforgiveness, resentment, or pride.
